Papershipwright HMVS Cerberus
Frank Auris

Although the model is available as free download from http://www.papershipwright.freeserve.co.uk, I was surprised about the quality and the fit of the parts. Also the instruction is very good. Picture of a built model are available on the webpage.

The construction:
The printout of cardboard with a strength of 160 g with the quality of HMV sheets is available from www.office-discount.de. Enter the keyword 424481. I did the printout on a Canon S750.
Place the base plate on a flat surface and build the bulkheads. Fit the deck on top of the bulkheads. Butt glue side parts on bow and stern and than apply plenty of glue on the bulkheads. This procedure prevents the bending of the hull. On each side do not glue 1 cm of the middle because this has be shortened based on the overlap to be butt glued.

Now build the gun towers and superstructure. Attention! The higher towers have to be shortened by 1.5 to 2 mm (part 34, 34b, 34 c) as otherwise the upper deck will lie on the towers. Unfortunately you will usually only recognize this after the construction

Picture: Right side, the tower according to plan, left the shortened

Fit the davits (part 66 and 67) for the lifeboats on the upper decks (part 15) and flying deck (part 39)davits (parts 66 and 67) , here good eye measurement is needed. The flying decks became a little too long. The davits should be glued to the marks on part 15, also the pennants (part 38) have to be vertically aligned. Place the flying deck loose, the brackets for the davits have to be glued parallel to the underside of part 39, because the exisiting marks can not be used anymore

After the fit of the brackets (part 40,41) glue all together.

Superstructure, upper deck, smoke stack and ventilator tubes should be colored black before assembly.Attach part 43 with the seam towards the stern, on the picture built wrong (will be changed).

Life boats finished davits will be glued sideways at the arrow marked positions, this way you can make adjustements so the boats hang straight. In case of the small boat the hold might have to be shortened. Will see

part 53

cut out parts, color black the cutting edges b and c.

Here is an example for rounding small parts with the assistance of an eraser.

If you divide the cardboard an the area where it should be butt glued, you create an overlap. Cut the cardboard where it should be butt glued, then add a gluing strip. With this technique the part becomes really round.
