Navstven Panny Marie is a beautiful church in Postorn Breclav, in the South of the Czech Republic, very close to the borders of both Austria and Slovakia. It is a World Heritage Site.

The kit, drawn by Richard Vyskovsky, is up to Erkotyp standard, in 1/165 scale. Very precise, very detailed and quite difficult to build. It comes in Erkotyps usual 33cm x 24cm booklet format. The text is written in Czech and German. As I dont understand either, Im doing some guessing about its contents: a brief history of the site and four pages of instructions (two Czech and two German). It contains two pages of very clear and detailed diagrams Picture 1 and eight pages with about 500 pieces that make up the kit itself Picture 2.

As you can see in Picture 1 the kit is divided into five main parts: centre, front, rear, left and right. These last two are symmetric along the longitudinal axis of the church. In fact, only the rear part has some details that break the symmetry of the whole church Picture 3.

The model is not very large: 24cm wide, 30cm long and 28cm high. The 500 pieces thus make up a lot of detail, quite delicate and sometimes hard to build. Erkotyp puts difficulty at two, in a scale of one to three. I would rather put it at 2.5! Part of the problem comes from the small size of many pieces, part from the paper, which is much too thick for my taste, and the rest from the overall shape of the building.

Pictures 4 to 7 show some details of the model, emphasising the intricacy of some assemblies. A good example is the pinnacle, less than 8cm high but with no less than 39 pieces. Be sure to have patience and time, if you intend to build this model!

Because of paper thickness, painting the fold edges is even more important than usual, if you dont want your model to look too much paper. Having said that, the kit can be built into a very pretty model Pictures 8 to 11 but I would not recommend it to a beginner.
