As we go into our fourth issue of the Card Modeling Internet Magazine, I feel that we can call this project a success. As I write this there are still about two weeks left in the month and we have well over 1500 visits to the site. I have been contacted by two more companies who want their models reviewed in the magazine and these are companies who are not located in the U.S. This last is very encouraging as it indicates that the professionals in the card modeling world are recognizing the effect that this magazine is making on the card modeling world. Even though things are going so well I have a few reservations that I am going to talk about today.
The first thing that concerns me is that I am all alone as for as editing this magazine is concerned. There are several problems with this, what happens if anything happens to me? I have been in the hospital three times in the last year and a half. Luckily these stays have been less than a week but what happens if I am there longer than that? I am an aircraft and ship builder and know very little about the architectural and vhiecular areas of our hobby. This is a tremendous amount of work for one person and I am concerned about burnout. When I started this magazine I had hopes of an editorial staff of three or four to cut down on the work and so that some different views could be presented in the magazine.
As of this time no one has stepped forward to offer their help in the editorial areas. We are having outstanding support from the readers submitting reviews. Several of the dealers/designers in the card modeling industry have thrown their whole hearted support behind this project and are supplying us with enough models to do all the reviews we can handle. It was never my intention of being the editor for this magazine. What I wanted to do was to write the "Around the Industry" and "First Looks" columns and put the magazine together on the net. I had hopes that people would step up to take each area of the magazine and edit that area.
If you have any interest we desperately need editors in the following areas:
Aircraft
Ships
Vehicles
Architectural
Editors for countries outside the U.S.
If you have any interest in any of these areas contact me at saulj@teuton.org.
The second thing that is concerning me is the lack of participation of some of the largest card modeling companies in Eastern Europe. Two that I would really like to have participate in the magazine are Halinski and GPM. I don't think that either company has a representative in the U.S. that could help us in obtaining their modes for review. These two companies are very influence in all the different areas of card modeling and really would like to be able to get their models for review. If anyone has any contacts with these companies it would be much appreciated if you could let them know about the E-zine and see if they would be willing to send models to us for review.
