Tips and General Warnings: 1. Before starting on the model, please read the instructions carefully and decide whether you will build the version I or version II (see the building instructions below for more detail) 2. Always try the fit of the parts at least twice without glue, before gluing parts together. 3. Some of the formers have to be filed at an angle corresponding to the angle of the segment. 4. Parts marked with L(left side) are assembled in the same way as parts having the same part number and marked with R(right side). (left and right sides are determined by looking at the aircraft with the nose away from you). 5. Marking "Sr" by the formers, means that there are two formers that are identical and when assembling segments, the formers will be facing each other. That means that formers have to be identical in size and shape. 6. The following marking by a part, means: . (dot) - strengthen the part with cardboard .. (dot dot) - strengthen the part with 0.5mm thick cardboard. * (star) - strengthen the part with 1.0mm thick cardboard. ** (star star) - strengthen the part with 1.5mm cardboard. 7. Pay close attention to symmetry of the model and proper angles of wings and stabs. 8. The model was designed using segments with formers in each end. This requires the corresponding formers to be identical (see note no. 3) and before assembling the segments together, the formers should be delicately sanded on a piece of sand paper, laying on flat surface. This will ensure perfect fit. 9. Letters P and G by some parts mean "front" and "top" respectively. 10. Elements marked WI, WII etc. should be made out of wire of corresponding thickness and bent into proper shape. 11. For much better final effect, some areas that do not have print on them, should be painted (that includes all parts made out of wire). 12. Use traditional glue to assemble the whole model, but for assembling gear of the model, it is recommended to use cyano- acrilic glue. This way the gear will stay strong and will be able to support the weight of the aircraft. This type of glue is also ideal for gluing together paper and elements made out of wire. Model assembly: This model can be assembled in two different versions: Version I: no moving parts. Version II: moveable control surfaces and canopy. If you decide to build the version II, please read the instruction until you are very familiar with assembly process, parts and until you are 100% sure that you understand all of the assembly steps. Assembly begins with segments 1 and 2. Into one of the two, you should insert some kind of weight -- silly putty is great for that purpose. Segment number 3: pilots cabin and the nose gear compartment. First you should assemble the internals: parts 3A to 3N. Next attach the gear compartment parts 4 to 41, 45 and optionally 47D (see assembly picture 1). Those are elements of nose gear. In part 3N cut out the area marked with lines. The narrow strips on the side should be covered with glue, to harden them up. The pilot's cabin: starting with parts 5 and 5A. Warning: see assembly picture 1 for directions on part 5a. Next, using a ruler or something similar, check the edge of a former between parts 3A and 3B and make sure that it is straight. Also at this time, the whole internal structure should be filed/sanded to the shape of the segment (dry fit the skin of the segment to see where corrections should be made). Next attach the internal part of the pilot's cabin, part 5C and cover the segment with part 3. Part 3 should NOT stick out pass the edge of 3N. Next step: the instrumentation etc in the pilot's cabin: parts 5,6 and 7. Warning: gluing together 6A and 5A is tricky. See assembly pictures. Assemble the ejection seat, part 8. Next, segment from parts 9 to 9E, with formers (assembly picture 1). Canopy, parts 10 and 11: if you are going to make the canopy static, you can assemble it and attach it now (version I). In this case, do not use parts 11c and 11h, do not cut parts 11 and 11a (see assembly pictures for details). If you have decided to make the version II, attach the canopy after the aircraft is assembled. Part 11 should be cut from the back, according to assembly pictures. Assemble part 11C and attach it to 11. Note: the middle part will be the "hinge". Assemble 11, 11B, 11D, 11E and 11H. For version I, omit 11B and H. In both versions, areas where the "glass" will be glued in, should stay not assembled. For now do not attach part 11A. "Hinge" mechanism: parts 11F to 11I, attach to part 6a and 11J to 11M, to part 11. Use great caution while assembling the canopy! Moveable elements like11G and 11L, should move with some resistance, so that canopy will stay raised. Attach parts 11, 10 and S3 TEMPORARILY to the body. Fit in the canopy's "glass", part S4 and attach fitted part 11 to the edge of 10. Canopy's glass S3 and S4 can be made with clear, soft plastic, using parts 11WA-11WE. The best solution however, would be to either purchase a Gomix canopy or press one, using the included pictures. After assembling the "glass" part of the canopy, attach part 11A, which should be cut according to assembly pictures. Next attach the canopy to hinge 11c and setup the movement restriction, with wire WWXXII, inserted into part 11M. Assemble above elements. Next step is section 12. Assemble formers according to assembly picture 1. Be extra careful with parts 12A and 12A1. In this segment contains the main gear compartments (parts 14,15). Make sure that parts 12C1 and 12C2 are assembled using strong glue, because main gear will be mounted on them. Part 14A, after rolling, cut off according to assembly pictures. Attach main gear compartments: parts 14L, 14P and part 15 (assembly picture 1 and 5). In the upper part of formers 12A and 12B, cut out slim strips, for mounting wire WXIII, WXIV, on which the wings will be mounted. Cover the segment with part 13. Tail section: first assemble formers 16A-16L. In part 16A and 16E, cut out areas with lines -- the mounts for engine exhaust (part 20). If you decide to make the air brake in the open position, also cut out the areas with lines, on formers 16C and 16D. Attach the break compartment, part 18. Cover the segment with part 17 first, then 19L and 19P. Attach the covering parts starting from the middle of the part 19. Horizontal stabilizer: part 21. If you decided to make those moveable, part 21F is best made from a piece of soft metal, which should be soldered with wire WVI. WARNING: do not glue together part WVI with 21C or 21E. Part 21G attach from the front and cut off excess with sharp blade, along former 21A. Insert wires into parts 16A and 16F. Now assemble the vertical stabilizers, part 22(static) or part 23(moveable). In moveable version: assemble part 23 according to assembly picture 1. >From parts 22L and 22P, cut off the moveable areas. Attach the upper wire WIX (safety pin) and assemble the covering of the stabilizer. Next assemble the moveable stabilizer. Pay particular attention to alignment of parts 22 and moveable 23. Attach the rest of parts which are the same for both versions of the model. WARNING: carefully study the assembly of part 22J. Ready and finished stabilizers, attach to the body and align them with help of SZABLON ROZCHYLENIA STATECZNIKOW PIONOWYCH. Parts 24 and 25 (air intakes) attach using assembly picture 2. Attach to the body parts 24P and 24L on wires WX and XI. Areas with lines on those parts and wire WXII should be used to assist in proper assembling of those parts, to the body -- those parts SHOULD BE REMOVED after assembly! If you decide to make the ladder to pilot's cabin open, cut out the marked areas on cover parts 24oP and cut off from former 24A the thickness of the cardboard. The proper way of assembling part 24R is showed on assembly pictures -- same parts 24h1 and 24h8. For air intakes, parts 25, see assembly picture 2. Part 25 WZOR, is used only to give the intakes the proper shape. Part 25, where it touches 25B, form into half circle. After assembly, remove part 25 WZOR. Wings: parts 27P and 27L. Use assembly picture 3 and the picture of the finished model. There can be two different versions made: static or mechanized. Static version: assemble formers, parts 26 and cover the assembly with part 27. The whole wing should be mounted to the body, with wires WXIII, WXIV. Pay attention to keep all the right angles between wings and the body of the model. Mechanized version: first assemble formers part 29L and 29P. Next part 31 with WXVII. WXVII is best made from a fishing line, about 0.7 - 0.8mm thick. Wing skin: parts 27P and 27L. Cut out the marked areas, fit in the earlier assembled former, keeping distance of 1.5mm from former 29E. Next mount part 31 in holes of former 29E, attach from the bottom elements 28G and 28I, deflect part 31 by about 30 degrees down, length of visible WXVII, should be only about 5mm. Secure it with element OG (see assembly pictures), which should be made from fishing line, paper of cardboard. It prevents part 31 from falling out when it is fully deflected. Part 27K (see assembly picture 3) should move together with part 31. The way to accomplish this, is shown in assembly pictures. Next assembly of the folding parts of the wings. They will fold upwards. Assemble former 30, cover it with 30P and 30L. Moving element is part 29o and wire WXVI. Part 29o after rolling into diameter of about 5mm, cut in the marked areas, into 9 even parts, which will turn, glue it to parts 29H and 30H, keeping the distance of 1.5mm from the top of the wings. The whole assembly should move with some resistance. From the bottom attach part 28A from the bottom and 28C from top, with cut out areas in the middle, and cuts made in marked areas. In this version, do not attach part 28B. Mount the whole wing assembly to the body, using wires WXII, WXV. Attach 30F, so that all the moveable elements can move easily. Next mount parts 32 and 33, using assembly picture 7. Nose gear: use assembly picture 4. Main landing gear: use assembly picture 5. Gear doors should be slightly bent/rounded to fit the profile of the body, where they will be attached. Main pictures of the model, are drawn in 1:1 scale. Please use strong glue, that is not affected by humidity or temperature, for assembling all vital parts, like landing gear. Some picture will only show the right side of the model. Parts on the right side, are made in the same way, as the left side. Arresting hook, part 17, can also be made moveable. Air brake 16: use assembly pictures. The remaining parts are weapon pylons and the weapons(use assembly pictures): Main pylon part 38, side pylons for Sparrow missiles 56L and 56P (see assembly picture 9), under wing pylons 34L, 34P, 35L and 35P (see assembly picture 12), Sidewinder missiles, part 61 (use assembly picture 7), mount on the pylons at the tips of the wings, missiles Sparrow, parts 62 (use assembly picture 9), mount them to pylons 35L, 35P, using parts 39, Maverick missiles parts 63 (use assembly picture 13), parts 63G and 63I, attach to the body of missiles, marked areas bend inwards, on the sides attach 63H and 63J, cut off excess paper by 63G, 63I. Attach missiles in pairs to part 37. They can also be mounted on pylons 34, 35. Guided bombs 64 and 65 (use assembly pictures 10 and 11) should be mounted ONLY on pylons 34, or just 1 bomb to pylon 38. HARM missiles, part 59 (use assembly picture 14), attach to pylon 36, or to pylons 34, 35. Bomb part 58, attach with part 41, to pylons either 34, 35 or 38. External fuel tanks parts 60 (assembly picture 6), on pylons 34 or 38. The whole weapon collection, can be made so that it can be attached or removed, using small wires in pylons.
